Chris,

I'm sorry for the delay in responding to your question - please forgive me.

I guess it's a matter of perspective. A negative person will never see any opportunity within a problem because his closed mind refuses to see. As the old saying goes, "there is none so blind as he who refuses to see". However, if a person sees an opportunity, he must also recognize it as a problem as well.

For example suppose you see a need for a simple device to solve a problem. This opportunity is filled with problems - what will it cost to develop your idea? How will you finance it? Can you bring it to market? Will people buy it? At a price that will provide you with a profit? So you can see that an opportunity can be a problem and a problem can be an opportunity. Whatever YOU choose is right for you.

Agreed, but can one view opportunities as problems? I've had this on going debate with a friend of mine the the two are not the same thing. You can see an opportunity in a problem, but you don't seek out problems within opportunities? In order for me to view things as one in the same, it has to be equal both ways. Do you agree?

Hi Joe,

Thanks for your input. Though I am a voracious reader and I've seen that book mentioned a number of times, I have never read it. I hear it is a classic and I am going to be on the lookout for it.

Helpful insights from a practical viewpoint.

Your comments remind me of Scott Peck's great line in A Road Less Traveled - "Life is a series of problems. Do we want to moan about them, or solve them?"
