With regards to the plug-in, I had the same reservations at first b/c I was concerned, like you, about something going wrong. But I bravely downloaded it a few months ago and have had no problems with it except when I tried to upgrade to 2.5. I had my new server upgrade it for me. But hopefully the next time a new version rolls out, I'll give it another shot. The strange thing is that this plug-in works well for upgrading plugins themselves but until WP version 2.5 came around, I had no problems with it. Go figure.
