The two choices that you make each day that determine your destiny
Let’s put the responsibility where it belongs – on ourselves. Most people go through life blaming someone else or life’s circumstances for their lack of success.
- If I had been raised differently, then I would be more successful
- If I had stayed in school, then I would have gotten that promotion
- If I were more confident, then I would have asked for that raise in salary
- If, If, If….
This defeatist attitude, though comforting, is not conducive to living the kind of life you can enjoy. If you want to have more and be more, then you must:
1. ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR LIFE!
For the most part, you are where you are in life, because of the choices that you’ve made. This is a very hard pill to swallow, but it is the necessary first step that you must make each and every day if a more successful life is what you want.
The choices that you’ve made in the past have resulted in putting you in the position that you are in today. You chose to either go to college or not to go to college. By the way, your parents did not “owe” you a college education. There a lots of ways to finance a college education if it is your desire to have a college education.
- Get a student loan
- Apply for student aid
- Get a scholarship
- Get a job and work while going to school
- Check with your current employer, lots of employers offer tuition assistance and tuition reimbursement plans
It’s easy to blame others for the lack of abundance in your life, but this will avail nothing except more of the same thing that you are experiencing right now.
If you want more or less, then you must accept responsibility for your life. You are the master of your destiny. You determine the course of your life. Until you “wrap your mind” around this concept, you will drift through life and never even begin to approach the potential you are capable of.
You cannot have more, be more or accomplish more without this necessary first step – accept responsibility for your life!
2. LAUNCH TODAY!
Too many people spend their lives “getting ready” to do something or waiting for the circumstances to be “just right” before they will initiate a change of course in their lives. You may recognize these people by their use of the following phrases:
- Someday, I’ll return to college
- One day, I’ll apply myself
- Soon, I’m going to ask the boss for more responsibility
- After the holidays, I’ll get started on that new project
- When school is out, I’ll have more time
These are simple phrases that you probably hear everyday, but they show you that “most” people will never change their lives because they simply will not set a firm date and start.
If you have an idea – then pursue it. TODAY! Don’t wait.
- The time is never more right than right this minute.
- Do something (anything) today that moves you in the direction you want to go in.
- A small step is perfectly O.K.
The point is to start an action and then build momentum toward the completion of your goal. As many others have stated, we are not just human beings, we are human “doings”. What are you doing?
Accept responsibility for your life and decide that you will start today to enjoy the kind of life that you deserve. It really is your choice after all.
